The circus is coming back to Hamlin Park this year September 13, 14 and 15! www.circusintheparks.org This event literally brings a big top tent and circus performance right to Hamlin Park (with an extra Friday evening show added this year). The proceeds from the ticket sales are split amongst the participating parks and Hamlin Park’s share will go directly to the Hamlin Park Advisory Council Playground Renovation campaign.
We need approximately 100 volunteers to make this a fantastic event. Volunteer shifts are available for each of five weekend shows to help with check-in/tickets, concessions, etc. Please support this great event and sign up here to volunteer.
Logistics: There will be a check-in table near the Hamlin Park playground for volunteers to report in at the beginning of their shift and be directed to their assigned stations. Hamlin Park’s field house address is 3035 N. Hoyne and the playground is located behind the field house on the north side of the park. We will also ask the volunteers to sign out at the volunteer check-in table, where they can obtain signature to document their service hours. NOTE: Parking may be difficult around the park on these days, so public transportation is suggested. The park is very close to the Damen, Diversey and Belmont bus lines.
HPAC and its mission:
HPAC is a volunteer group of committed neighbors who have come together out of a need to enhance and improve the Hamlin Park grounds, facilities and programming to best serve the needs and interests of our community. Hamlin Park is an active community gathering place, and holds a historic field house providing facilities for a range of programs and grounds offering basketball, tennis, baseball, swimming and a dog park. However, there are critical needs to improve the safety and functionality of the Hamlin Park facilities and grounds in order to continue to provide the best environment for active engagement of our entire community. HPAC has the support of the Park District, local elected officials and other neighborhood groups in achieving our mission. HPAC is committed to leading this effort and to making Hamlin Park the heart of our community.
As HPAC works with the community to develop a comprehensive action plan for improvement, a number of critical priorities have been identified, two of which are listed below:
- Playground renovation – A modern and safe playground should be the cornerstone of an engaging community park. Yet, it has been more than two decades since work of any significance has been done on the Hamlin Park playground and it falls below the national safety standards. The initial work of HPAC will focus largely on this renovation, which will improve the atmosphere for the entire park.
- Programming and special events – The grounds of Hamlin Park and its versatile facilities have the potential to be an incredible setting for diverse programs and special events, attracting all members of the community. HPAC has formed a committee to focus on developing these exciting opportunities.
As public funding for the park continues to shrink, it is absolutely necessary to raise supplemental funds to support the park improvements that are so important to the community. HPAC offers a number of ways for the community and local business to become engaged in this active work that include monetary donations, food and supply donations to support fundraising events, volunteering and other such opportunities. HPAC has zero administrative costs and our officers volunteer their time.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
